Clinical studies are led by a principal investigator, a board-certified physician. They also have a research team that includes nurses, doctors, social workers, and other health professionals.

 

Likewise, these can be financed or sponsored by pharmaceutical companies, academic medical centers and other organizations, in addition to federal agencies. Physicians, other health care providers, and others may also be sponsors of clinical research.
